Everyone loves receiving a gift, especially ones that keeps on giving! This was the thinking behind our client's promotion that encouraged fitness and well-being at one of their major events - the Humana Challenge, (formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic), a professional golf tournament played in California's Coachella Valley.
Our client wanted to do more than just hand out giveaways that encouraged healthy habits; they wanted to engage their audience and make sure that the event's sponsors were remembered after the tournament was over. With this in mind, they created an interactive contest called Walkit, which turned walking from hole-to-hole during the event into a game.
For Walkit, our client gave away pedometers and set up a friendly competition between the recipients -- they earned one point for each step taken. The points could be exchanged for merchandise (like our G-Storm Water Bottle, our Spectator Seats or our Shoe Wallet) and those with the highest scores would receive additional prizes. There were even opportunities to earn additional bonus points by participating in healthy activities, such as getting massages (tough sell!) or by making healthy choices, like picking water over soda pop.
Best of all, if the walkers collectively reached 100 million steps, Humana would donate up to $500,000 to charity.
As evidenced by the video, the promotion was a hit. Not only were all of the recipients excited to participate for prizes, but they reacted to the giveaways in the way our client hope they would -- they thought the contest and the incentives would help them make healthier choices on (and off) the golf course.
