When a new iPhone was purchased by a customer in Britain, he was surprised to find three preloaded pictures of a young Asian woman on his new toy.  These pictures now have the public asking, who is this young girl and have these pictures gotten her in trouble?

Bloggers have jumped all over this topic offering their suggestions and opinions while news reports suggest the young woman may work on an assembly line at an Apple contractor in southern China.

One post that caught my attention and probably the attention of Apple execs:

"She looks about 12 or 13 to me!  I don't think Stevo is going to be impressed at all.  It looks a little bit too much like child labor," wrote sibruk, referring to Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

So the 29th Olympiad has come to a close and the world now must wait four years to see the brightest athletes take the world's biggest stage.  The Summer Olympics will take place in London in 2012 and while Britain's budget will be significantly less than the $44 billion the Chinese spent on the Beijing Games, London is promising a more fun and casual experience.

London officials have identified a couple areas they hope to improve upon, including the fun factor and attendance at the events.  They plan to offer discounted tickets to locals in hopes of filling seats, a problem at the Games in Beijing.  London plans to create a party atmosphere, offering large viewing areas outside stadiums and televisions outside restaurants and pubs in hopes of drawing people to the events even if they don't have tickets.

Will the London Olympics in 2012 live up to the standard set by Beijing this year?  Can they do it with half the budget?  What would you like to see change or improved in the next four years to make the Olympics a more fan-friendly experience?

Leaderpromos.com introduces three key ingredients to purchasing successful promotional holiday gifts -- creating a budget, researching the recipient and creating memorable custom imprinted products.

By following three easy steps, companies can successfully choose the promotional holiday gifts best suited for their customers and/or employees -- budget, research and creating a memorable product. Selecting the appropriate promotional gifts for your recipients can be a warm gesture, and at the same time, leave a lasting memory of your company's brand.

Creating a budget allows recipients to be categorized into tier brackets. Those in the top tiers receive more personalized promotional products and embroidered apparel that have a retail quality while those in the lower tiers receive more screen printed promotional products and embroidered apparel.

Researching the recipient's income, success or failures of previous year's gifts and relationship with the recipient narrows your corporate gift ideas to those products that are appropriate and appreciated by a multiple types of recipients without a lot of added expense.

Imprinting your logo can be an effective way of creating a memorable impression. The key is knowing how to decorate a promotional product or embroidered apparel. Inexpensive promotional products and apparel allow more flexibility in using company logos. However, higher-end promotional gifts tend to limit the use of your company logo. Having your logo laser engraved or embossed promotes the higher-end look and leaves a lasting impression.

A general guideline in promotional item gift-giving is to avoid self-promotion. Choose a memorable gift, the recipient will remember it's from you.

  • Distinguished distributors have a sales volume of $2 million to just under $5 million.

The Multimillion-Dollar Roundtable is a designation presented to distributors reporting a sales volume of $2 million and over. Less than 5% of ASI members are eligible, making this a coveted achievement, and a position of some influence as to the direction of the industry as a whole.

Changing times within the industry are reflected within the MMRT, and also in the latest Counselor Top 40 Distributors and Top 40 Suppliers lists as found in Counselor State of The Industry issue, released in July of this year. The popular annual lists, also compiled with data from the survey results, rank top performing distributors and suppliers by 2004 total sales revenue.

The companies achieving the MMRT, and Top 40 designations earn, and retain, their top spots by capitalizing upon their abilities to simultaneously adapt to their customers' changing expectations while improving service. Continued forward momentum in 2005 will require keeping an eye on several factors, ranging from a competitive environment to rising oil prices.

Timothy M. Andrews, president of ASI, observed: The results reported in this year's Counselor State of the Industry survey are impressive. Sales revenues have rebounded nicely to 16.9 billion dollars, a record high. I believe focusing efforts upon improving customer service and keeping a watchful eye on economic factors will prove important as we prepare for the second half of 2005."

ASI and Counselor magazine congratulate these distributors on their accomplishments and welcome them to the 2005 Multimillion-Dollar Distributor Roundtable.

The Olympic opening ceremonies were fantastic, with an out-of-this-world fireworks show and an amazing little girl with a glorious voice.  The only problem was, that cute little girl wasn't the one with the amazing voice.  Instead, directors for the opening ceremonies decided minutes before the show was to begin that 7 year old Yang Peiyi wasn't cute enough to represent their country and instead 9 year old Lin Miaoke would be the cute, good looking stand in.

The decision has created heated debate with some people supporting the use of lip-synching and others arguing it was in poor taste to tell a little girl she was not pretty enough for television.  What kind of message does this send to little girls in China?  What kind of message does it send to little girls all over the world?  I would love to hear your thoughts as they pertain to this issue.

Faux Fireworks at the Olympics?

Not all was what it seemed during the spectacular opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

Beijing organizers confirmed Tuesday that some of the fireworks display featured prerecorded footage.

Fireworks that burst into the shape of 29 gigantic footprints were shown trudging above the Beijing skyline to the National Stadium near the start of the ceremony.

Though the footprint-shaped fireworks were real, some of the footage shown to television viewers around the world and on giant screens inside the "Bird's Nest" stadium featured a computer-generated three-dimensional image.

"It was confirmed that previously recorded footage was provided to the broadcasters for convenience and theatrical effects--as in many other big events," Beijing organizing committee spokesman Wang Wei said. "On the day of the ceremony there were actual footprints of fireworks from the south to the north of the city.

"However, because of the poor visibility of the night, some previously recorded footage may have been used."

The computerized images were produced by Crystal Digital Technology Co. of Beijing.

"We did our best to create a rendering that would look like the shot was taken live," company spokesman Lei Ming told the Beijing Times. "Most people could not tell the difference."

NBC said broadcasters Bob Costas and Matt Lauer told viewers the display was cinematic.

"This is actually almost animation," Lauer said on the air.

The ceremony won rave reviews around the world and was watched by more than 1 billion people.

In the United States on NBC, the ceremony averaged 34.2 million U.S. viewers, making it the biggest American television event since the Super Bowl.

The Olympic flag reinforces the idea of the Olympic Movement's universality, as it brings together all the countries of the world.

The meaning of the flag:

The Olympic flag has a white background, with five interlaced rings in the center: blue, yellow, black, green and red. This design is symbolic, representing the five continents of the world, united by Olympism, while the six colors are those that appear on all the national flags of the world at the present time.
Combined in this way, the six colors of the flag (including the white of the background) represent all nations.

At the Olympic Games, the flag is brought into the stadium during the opening ceremony. Since the 1960 Games in Rome, it has been carried horizontally by a delegation of athletes.

After its arrival, the flag is hoisted up the flagpole. It must fly in the stadium during the whole of the Games. When the flag is lowered at the closing ceremony, it signals the end of the Games.

The mayor of the host city of the Games passes the Olympic flag to the mayor of the next host city of the Games.
